New ICQ and Updated AIM Apps for iPhone and iPod touch Coming Soon

SAN FRANCISCO, Macworld Expo – January 6, 2009 – AOL announced two new applications for iPhone and iPod touch – a SHOUTcast Radio app and an ICQ instant messaging app – as well as an updated version of AIM. The applications will give users easy access to SHOUTcast Radio’s leading directory of online radio stations, and two of the world’s leading instant messaging networks.

AOL will be demonstrating these and its other products for the iPhone and iPod touch this week at Macworld Conference and Expo, booth #1438, taking place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

“Our new SHOUTcast Radio and ICQ apps further expand our offerings for iPhone and continue our drive to provide consumers with access to our world-class products and services anytime, anywhere,” said Kevin Conroy, Executive Vice President of AOL.

New SHOUTcast Radio for iPhone and iPod touch

SHOUTcast Radio for iPhone and iPod touch lets on-the-go consumers access more than 26,000 professional and community programmed radio stations spanning more than 30 genres of music, news, talk, public, community and world programming. Consumers can search the extensive SHOUTcast Radio directory and save their favorite SHOUTcast stations. With an accelerometer control, users can shake their iPhone or iPod touch to change stations. SHOUTcast Radio for iPhone also displays radio stations by popularity and by stream quality, giving users the flexibility to select radio stations that are appropriate for their current network connection.

Coming Soon: New ICQ and Updated AIM Apps for iPhone and iPod touch

ICQ for iPhone will bring together all of the core features of the popular instant messaging service – including real-time IM communication and access to the Contact List – and combine them with additional new capabilities that make IM’ing from iPhone or iPod touch easy and convenient. With ICQ for iPhone, users will be able to connect to anyone on AOL’s worldwide IM network – whether they are on AOL, AIM, .Mac or MobileMe – via IM or SMS.

ICQ features developed specifically for iPhone and iPod touch include the ability to hold multiple IM conversations and swipe a finger to switch between conversations; Favorites, which puts the contacts with whom you keep in touch at your fingertips; and the ability to easily incorporate a photo taken with the iPhone's built in camera as an ICQ Devil.

AIM for iPhone 2.0 will add a host of new features to what has been one the most popular free iPhone applications, making it even easier and more convenient to communicate via AIM while on the go.  New SMS notifications will let users know when they receive new IMs, even when AIM is not running. In addition, users will be able to access contacts in their device’s address book directly from AIM, and easily send an IM to a contact’s screen name or send a text message to their phone number via SMS.

Availability

The SHOUTcast Radio app is available now for free from Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/.

ICQ for iPhone and AIM for iPhone 2.0 will be available soon from Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/.

The new SHOUTcast Radio and ICQ applications and the updated AIM application continue AOL’s drive to expand its communications and multimedia experiences to platforms beyond the desktop. In addition to the launch of AIM for iPhone, AOL also launched free AOL Radio and Truveo video search applications in July 2008. Since then, AOL Radio for iPhone has been one of the most widely-acclaimed iPhone applications and downloaded more than 1.5 million times. At Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, AOL Radio for iPhone received the Apple Design Award for “Best Entertainment Application.”

In addition to offering downloadable applications, AOL has also optimized many of its popular websites and services for the iPhone and iPod touch’s Safari browser, including AOL.com, AOL Food, AOL Horoscopes, AOL Mail, MapQuest, AOL Mobile Search, AOL Money & Finance, Moviefone, AOL Shopping, and AOL TV Listings.
