Oct 19, 2011

Last night, The Huffington Post celebrated its annual Game Changers event at Skylight Studios in Soho. Politicos, industry leaders, Hollywood stars, media personalities and more turned out to honor the bold visionaries, leaders and role models changing how we look at the world, and live in it.

Here's a great snapshot of the evening, and be sure to visit the Game Changers site later today and tomorrow as we'll be posting more videos of the event.

The Huffington Post honored 100 Game Changers in 12 categories: Politics, Media, Entertainment, Culture, Style, Green, Business and Technology, Sports, World, Food and Travel, Impact and Education, and Healthy Living.

The evening got off to a poignant and powerful start with the presentation of "Game Changer of the Year" to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. On hand to present the honors was former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, appearing with his son in public for the first time since his inauguration. The current Governor Cuomo was honored for his work to bring marriage equality to the state of New York, and he boldly predicted that the New York law would jump start the movement to legalize same-sex marriage across the country.

Tom Freston was honored in the World category for his activist efforts with Bono's ONE campaign, and his role with Tolo TV, which is bringing television to war-torn Afghanistan. His award was presented by Rolling Stone founder, Jann Wenner.

Introduced by NBC Nightly News anchor and Rock Center host Brian Williams, Kelly Meyer received the Game Changer award in Food & Travel for her efforts to fight childhood obesity through her Teaching Garden nonprofit.

Glamour magazine Editor in Chief, Cindi Leive, introduced Kim Kardashian who was honored for her brand building prowess.

Headmaster of The Gateway Schools in New York City, Bob Cunningham, was honored for taking a unique approach to teaching students with learning disabilities. His award was presented by Grace Hightower, actress, philanthropist and wife of actor Robert De Niro.

Honored for her work as National Chair of Communities in Schools, Wynn Resorts Director Elaine Wynn was honored as an Impact Game Changer by author and Huffington Post Divorce editor-at-large Nora Ephron.

Topping off an evening was the presentation of a Style Game Changer award to the Versailles Models of 1973, who took part in a historic fashion show that shook up the then all-white world of fashion, while introducing emerging designers like Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass to the world. Billie Blair, Alva Chinn, Pat Cleveland, Norma Jean Darden, Charlene Dash, and Bethann Hardison were there to represent, with Gayle King doing the honors.

Congratulations to all of the nominees and the winners!
