AOL Flips on 'Game Changer' Micro Data Center
Jul 11, 2012
Following the ribbon-cutting on a 100% cloud-based AOL tech center late last year, AOL has now installed a data center in a small box, or a micro data center. Mike Manos, CTO, AOL Services, shares the details of this "game changer" in a blog post along with what it means for AOL.
"Not only did my teams simply kick ass, they did it in a way that moved the needle for the company, and in my mind once again catapulted themselves into the forefront of operations and technology at scale," Mike said in his post, which has already attracted 48,000 views in less than a week. Mike said the post is seeing views from Asia and Europe and is now among the top-20 most-viewed posts ever on his blog.
The deployment of the unit also attracted the attention of the tech news heavyweights including PC Magazine, Wired, ZDNet and GigaOm. AOL's technology team also recently won an award for our data center energy efficiency efforts.
