NEW YORK, NY (August 8, 2014) – Today, AOL Be On opens the doors to unique travel destinations in the U.S. through its new original branded series, Breaking Boundaries. The series is led by movie star, director and award-winning travel writer Andrew McCarthy. Guided by McCarthy, viewers are transported to unexpected destinations in major cities across America, including touring Biscayne Bay in Miami by boat, and flying high over the City by the San Francisco Bay.

Though best known for his roles in films like "Pretty in Pink" and "St. Elmo's Fire," McCarthy is also editor-at-large at National Geographic Traveler and was named 2010 "Travel Journalist of the Year" by the Society of American Travel Writers. His latest travel memoir, The Longest Way Home, was a New York Times bestseller, with the Financial Times naming it one of the Best Books of 2012. McCarthy brings this expertise to Breaking Boundaries as he seeks out hidden gems in major cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. "Travel is not about the destination; it's the experience. I want to take viewers to the heart of a place, so they experience the best the city has to offer," says McCarthy. "When you're in New Orleans eating with friends, it's more than just tasting the local cuisine -- it's personal."

The series explores different aspects of each city, from familiar iconic locations to locals-only spots off the beaten path. Viewers will experience a blend of culture, art, entertainment and nightlife: from Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle, to the Versace Mansion in Miami, to the Wooden Quilts in New Orleans.
