TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2012 Announces Marquee Speakers for Sixth Annual Conference

TechCrunch now extends deadline for Startup Battlefield applications

SAN FRANCISCO – July 10, 2012 – TechCrunch Disrupt SF, the annual conference that brings together early stage startups and notable influencers in the technology community, confirms that the first set of notable speakers that will share their insights and expertise during the show includes:
  • Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO,
  • Ben Horowitz, co-founder and partner, Andreessen Horowitz
  • Joel Klein, executive vice president and CEO, News Corp education division
The conference has also extended the deadline for applications to its Startup Battlefield to Friday, July 13, giving more entrepreneurs the opportunity to compete for the top spot. TechCrunch selects 30 un-launched startups to debut at the show, exposing them to an audience of innovators, angels, venture capitalists, media and industry experts. Former competitors to have launched on the Battlefield include Yammer, and Dropbox.

Competitors work closely with the TechCrunch team to develop a successful pitch, and the winners, judged by a panel of experts and celebrities in the industry, walk away with a $50,000 prize and the much-desired Disrupt Cup. To apply, eligible companies should have a product they will launch on stage for the first time, or have a product that has not been widely exposed and has not been public for more than three months. Applications must be received before July 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

As in years past, Disrupt opens with the Hackathon, taking place from Sept. 8 at 12:30 p.m. to Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. A limited number of tickets are only available for developers who wish to participate and work on hack projects to present. Spectator tickets will also be available closer to the show date.

Disrupt SF 2012 ( is TechCrunch's sixth annual conference in San Francisco. The format combines thought leadership discussions with product and startup launches. Morning executive discussions are centered on technology-driven disruptions in many industries, while the afternoons are reserved for the Startup Battlefield, where 30 new companies will launch for the first time on stage. These companies are selected from a pool of more than 1000 applications received from around the world. The winning company will receive a $50,000 grand prize and the Disrupt Cup at the conclusion of the conference. The conference is September 8-12, 2012, at The Concourse Exhibition Center located at 635 Brannan Street (at 8th Street) in San Francisco's downtown SOMA district.
