Moviefone Celebrates 20 Years

AOL's Iconic Movie Portal Marks Celebration with Site Relaunch Including New Facebook® Integrations and Mobile Features; Puts the "Fone" Back into Moviefone

New York, NY – September 17, 2010 – "Hellooo, and welcome to Moviefone!" It's the unmistakable voice and trademark greeting of Mr. Moviefone that moviegoers have heard for two decades on their phone and throughout pop culture from David Letterman to "Saturday Night Live" to "The Simpsons" and "Seinfeld." Moviefone, which serves millions of moviegoers each week*, today celebrates 20 years with a relaunch of Moviefone.com and new mobile applications that make getting movie recommendations, show times and tickets even easier..

As part of the 20th celebration, Moviefone is giving away 20,000 free movie tickets over 20 days, and at the end of the 20-day period, one winner will be selected to win free movie tickets for life. The sweepstakes runs from September 24 through October 13.

SHARING AND CREATING AN EVENT WITH YOUR FACEBOOK FRIENDS

Moviegoers can now see what movies their Facebook friends like, and, directly from Moviefone, invite their friends to go to the movies with them. Fans can also "like" Moviefone features from the site and receive ongoing alerts in their Facebook News Feed about movies they are interested in. Facebook features have also been integrated into a new iPhone application as well as the mobile version of Moviefone. Similar functionality is being developed for Android and BlackBerry.

PURCHASE TICKETS AND SHARE WITH FRIENDS DIRECTLY FROM YOUR PHONE

Now Moviegoers can send a customized text message with movie times directly from the Moviefone Web site to friends, family or their own hones to take show time and theater information on the go. In addition to being able to watch movie trailers and view Moviefone's extensive movie database of actor and director bios, filmographies, etc., Moviegoers can also purchase tickets or send a customized text message with movie times directly from the new Moviefone iPhone app or from the mobile version of the site: http://m.aol.com/moviefone/

SHOW TIMES, THEATER PREFERENCES, TICKETS, RATINGS AND REVIEWS
According to internal data, 93% of Moviefone patrons visit the site for show time information. The new site enhances this basic feature, along with ticketing and reviews:

  • Show times are now front and center on the homepage and searchable by movie, actor, theater or location;
  • Theater preferences can be customized, localizing the experience that will carry with the consumer throughout all editorial content;
  • Movie reviews and a rate-it section, including consumer opinions and industry reviews, have been enhanced;
  • MapQuest is now deeply integrated for maps and directions to movie theaters.

IN-DEPTH EDITORIAL
Moviefone will continue to provide fans with in-depth inside information on the hottest movies and actors. The thoughts and opinions of moviegoers will also be highlighted on the site, from personal reviews of movies to actual movie going experiences.
