Truveo Launches Exclusive Facebook Application Providing a New Way to Discover and Share Video

San Francisco, CA – June 10, 2010 – Today Truveo launched a new video discovery application exclusively for Facebook. The Facebook app, http://www.facebook.com/truveo, allows users to search and browse Truveo's database of more than 500 million videos and thousands of channels directly within Facebook as well as share the videos with friends. The application also makes it possible for Facebook users to discover relevant content through a friend's recommendations based on their interests.

As part of the app, Truveo is introducing its new technology that allows users to track a particular celebrity's voice in a video using the audio track. The new technology, called Truveo CelebritySearch, lets users follow their favorite celebrities online and comment on what they say, when they say it in a video discovered within Truveo's expansive database.

"Truveo has always been focused on being a leader in video search and the launch of our Facebook application, featuring our innovative technology allowing users to search by celebrity voice recognition, brings us to the forefront of the sector," said Pete Kocks, vice president, Truveo, Inc. "We recognize that Facebook is the online equivalent of the company water cooler where people meet and share information. Our application provides users a comprehensive index of video, television and celebrity voice content now delivered all in one easy place."

The Truveo Facebook application enables users to:

  • Track video clips of celebrities when they speak.
  • Search and browse video recommendations from over 500 million videos.
  • Receive personalized video recommendations based on age, gender, etc.
  • Search a new and comprehensive guide to television programming available on the Internet.
  • Discover and share music videos.
  • Receive Facebook and e-mail notifications of new television and celebrity content.
  • Post and comment on any video, television show, and what a celebrity says.

"AOL Ventures was designed to provide a nurturing environment for entrepreneurs and select AOL businesses, allowing them to explore and develop innovative technologies and products," said Jon Brod, executive vice president of AOL Ventures, Local & Mapping. "Truveo's Facebook application was built to delight consumers and is one of what we expect will be many industry-leading innovations coming from the Ventures group."

Truveo is one of the most comprehensive search engines for video, making it possible for consumers to search and browse through over 500 million videos from thousands of sources across the Web, and is able to find videos that cannot be found in any other search engine. The Truveo search engine reaches an audience of more than 60 million monthly unique visitors, according to comScore Custom Media Builder report based on March 2010 data, and powers video search for some of the Web's most popular destinations including AOL Video, AOL Search, CBS Radio, Excite, Infospace, Kosmix, CNET's Search.com and Sports Illustrated, to name a few.
