AOL Announces Smokey Robinson to Appear at the SXSW Soul Revue at Austin Music Hall Presented by AOL and Spinner

Additional Performers Include Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Raphael Saadiq

New York, March 12, 2010 – AOL announced today that it anticipates Smokey Robinson will appear at the SXSW Soul Revue at Austin Music Hall on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. local time (doors open at 6 p.m.). Additional performers slated to appear include Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Raphael Saadiq, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears and Mayer Hawthorne & the County. This is an official SXSW showcase and admission is open to SXSW Music and Platinum Badges and SXSW Music and Artist Wristbands. Single-admission tickets will be available at the box office on the night of March 19.

"Spinner's mission is to provide our audience with a platform to discover new bands and celebrate the ones they love," said Mike Spinella, AOL Music's head of label relations. "We're big fans of the New Soul movement, and we wanted to shine a light on it for our first SXSW showcase."

Select performances from the concert will be available for free streaming on In addition, AOL and Spinner plan to present a series of pop-up concerts around Austin that include Broken Bells, Rogue Wave, VV Brown and Rival Schools. Two songs from each of those shows will be available for free streaming on Spinner beginning March 19.

"Soul probably isn't the first thing the average SXSW festivalgoer thinks of while plotting a schedule, but there's a vital scene in Austin," said Melissa Olund, managing editor of AOL Music. "This showcase is very much past meets present for the city."

In anticipation of taking the stage alongside Robinson, Raphael Saadiq said "it's a great thing to travel the world and see how many other people are inspired by some of the same people I'm inspired by. It's a worldwide beat in everybody's heart."

Fans unable to attend the show will be able to view select performances on, along with selections from the pop-up series.
